Computers are capable of many things. When I was younger, I used them to animate fight scenes, type out stories that went on for hundreds of pages, and study almost every subject I know today. My younger self knew little of how computers actually worked and next to nothing about the dangers of malware and viruses. However, my studies in cybersecurity changed that. Like the cells and microscopic organisms that work inside the human body, I learned that digital systems have a great deal of moving parts that are invisible to the undiscerning eye. And like human bodies, which need to be protected to withstand wounds and illnesses, digital systems also need ample protection to withstand the attacks of cybercriminals.

 

This was when I learned that computers were capable of much more than I originally thought. The same tool I used (and still use) to write novels could be twisted into a deadly weapon in the hands of a cybercriminal. Even low-end computers that would struggle to run simple games are harnessed to conduct phishing campaigns, launch DDoS attacks, and inject scripts into websites all over the world. As I comprehended these things, I realized just how important my career in cybersecurity would be for both companies and individuals alike. They needed capable, trustworthy security experts to protect their systems from the ever-growing number of criminals who are using computers to steal and destroy the property of innocent people. Thus, I aim to continue growing my capabilities in order to defend those who are vulnerable to the attacks of malicious users.
